FAQ
We get it. Trying a new race can be intimidating. That's why we're here to answer any questions you might have. Here are a few that get asked a lot.
MORE QUESTIONS?
1.
WHAT'S WITH THE NAME?
Crofton is a sweet little town along the Northeast border of Nebraska, nestled in the rolling hills of the Missouri River Valley near Gavins Point Dam. Some say we are the “Friendliest Little Town by a Dam Site.”
4.
HOW DO I CHECK-IN?
We encourage you to check-in early, Friday before the race, 6-8 p.m. at the Crofton Haymarket, 105 Main Street. You can also check-in on race day, 6:30 a.m. at the Weigand Swim Beach.
2.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
Register here! Each entry receives a t-shirt, bib, and meal following the race. Register early for the best price.
3.
IS THIS A GOOD RACE FOR A FIRST-TIMER?
Sure is. We have a variety of competitors from first-time family teams to more experienced athletes. If you’re here for prize money, this isn’t your race (mainly because there is no prize money). If you’re here for a fun, fresh race experience ... we're the race for you.
5.
WHAT ARE THE PRIZES?
The overall individual winner will receive a trophy. The individual winners of each age group and the fastest team will receive a medal. Everyone gets a high-five!
6.
WHERE SHOULD I STAY?
Stay in Crofton at the Lewis & Clark Lodge or the Historic Argo Bed & Breakfast. Camping is also available at the Weigand Campgrounds.
7.
DO I NEED TO BRING MY KAYAK?
Nope. You can borrow one of our kayaks by checking the option at registration. Our kayaks are donated and come in a variety of sizes and styles. If you prefer a specific style of kayak, bring your own. Please bring your own life jacket!
9.
CAN I BRING GUESTS?
Yes! We encourage it. There is plenty of room to watch you start from the Weigand Beach. We encourage spectators to take alternate county roads back to Crofton to keep traffic off the highways. The finish line is on East Main Street directly in front of the Crofton Haymarket. You can order extra meals for your guests at registration or on race day.
8.
IS IT SAFE?
We want all athletes to feel safe, so here’s what we do:
-
Thanks to our fire department, lighted vehicles lead and follow both runners and bikers.
-
Yankton Search & Rescue has a boat on the water in case of any accidents during the kayak portion of our race.
-
Our local EMT squad has volunteers at the starting line-up and finish line as well as equipment on the road and at water stations.
-
Water stations keep you hydrated along the way.
-
Volunteers wearing bright orange shirts guard each intersection to ensure on-coming vehicles are warned of bikers and runners on the road.
-
You just have one job: bring a bike helmet and life jacket!
10.
COOL T-SHIRTS.
CAN I ORDER EXTRA?
We think so too! Extra dry-fit t-shirts can be ordered online during registration and we may have extras for sale on event day. T-shirts are $15 each.
11.
IS TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE?
Transportation will be available after the race from Crofton to Weigand to pick up kayaks, gear or move vehicles as necessary.
12.
TELL ME ABOUT THE FINISH LINE CELEBRATION.
